Q. It must feel new to you as this is a new album you are releasing after 2 years and 6 months, how are you feeling for your comeback?
K: As it’s an album I am releasing after a long while, I put lots of effort in it. I hope it’s an album that would satisfy lots of people.
Q. If you were to introduce this album with a keyword? And the reason is?
K: It’s ‘KEY’. It’s filled with the kind of preference I have and the kind of music I would like to introduce with that.
Q. You have put in your heart and soul as you participate in the music, concept, stylings and music video for this album, how would you rate its satisfaction level? What kind of idea and opinion did you put in?
K: It won’t be possible to make an album with all areas being perfect but as I participated in all areas comparatively, I am satisfied with those areas. Whether it’s the ‘Retro Space’ concept jacket filming or the outfits or the title song ‘BAD LOVE’ music video etc., those are the products made after the numbers of meeting done with my ideas.
Q. We heard that the title song ‘BAD LOVE’ is a song made for Key by composer Kenzie, in which area was it being discussed? Is there any episodes from the recording?
K: I told composer Kenzie of the various element for the music I want to do and I told him the direction I wanted for the lyrics and melody in detail before it was made after a couple of amendments. ‘BAD LOVE’ is the song that I have recorded the longest for among the songs that I have recorded till now.
Q. The part where you pay more attention to in the performance for ‘BAD LOVE’?
K: Everyone agreed to produce a intense performance and I feel like it came out well in that way with the real one as well. It was made reflecting my idea of having the simplest performance at the climax part of the song.
Q. If there’s a part that needs to be focused on when watching ‘BAD LOVE’ music video?
K: As the way how the main character’s inner world changes in the song ‘BAD LOVE’ is being expressed using the changes in the music video set, I would like for that part to be watched with more focus.
Q. You wrote the lyrics for ‘Saturday Night’ and ‘Eighteen (End of My World)’, how did you write them?
K: I wrote the lyrics for ‘Saturday Night’ like I am writing a novel the moment I heard the song and thought about how it feels to go through a separation during the COVID 19 period, I expressed it in a way that one doesn’t feel better easily even after one had an online party to be free of the rough emotions one is feeling. I wrote Eighteen like a letter with words I would like to say to my 18 self from my current self.
Q. What’s the reason you released ‘Hate that…’ beforehand? You did it with Taeyeon so how did you come about doing it with her?
K: ‘Hate that…’ is a song prepared like a surprised gift for my fans who have waited for me for such a long time that I feel that I have to show them something at least after realizing that my album was going to take longer than expected. I personally ask Taeyeon sunbaenim for this featuring.
Q. Following ‘Imagine’ in your first full album, there’s an English song ‘Helium’ including in the album this time round as well, so what’s the reason for you to be presenting English songs?
K: I am having it so that it would be easy for global fans to sing along if there’s a song with English lyrics.
Q. You had a solo concert in a long while through Beyond Live, where was the area that you especially paid attention to?
K: As this was prepared after pre-releasing a song and with an album to be released after, I have included lots of new songs (in the setlist). I feel like that they might be curious of how the performances will be done so other than ‘BAD LOVE,’ I have prepared a lot for the stages for ‘Yellow Tape,’ ‘Helium,’ ‘Saturday Night,’ and ‘Eighteen.’
Q. You gathered attention as the ‘Ending Fairy’ on music shows, can we look forward to that in your solo activities this time as well?
K: That’s really gives me lots of pressure… (laughs)
Q. What’s the goal and result you would want to achieve from this album?
K: As it’s an album that I have produced most passionately before I regret, I will feel prouder the more people enjoys it.
Q. Lastly, a word to your fans.
K: Thank you for waiting. As it’s an album I worked hard in preparing, it would be nice if you can enjoy it as much as you need to.
